What is Visible Light?
Visible light is a term which is applied to colour wavelengths, as seen by the naked eye. Our eyes can read colour from approximately 400-700 nanometres, or nm, and these colours fall on narrow wavelength bands which are pure spectral colours, or in simpler terms primary colours as we know them, such as red, green, orange, yellow, blue, indigo and violet. The visible spectrum, then, is so coined because human beings can see it, whereas any other type of light outside of these ranges, cannot be perceived by us.
That's not to simply generalise. There are ways to test how well you read the colour spectrum but strictly speaking the wavelengths for which visible light appears to us is as follows:
- Violet: 380–450 nm (688–789 THz frequency)
- Blue: 450–495 nm
- Green: 495–570 nm
- Yellow: 570–590 nm
- Orange: 590–620 nm
- Red: 620–750 nm (400–484 THz frequency)
Hi-Line Lighting's RGBW LED strips are accurately read within our workshop using our own spectral reading equipment and as such we are able to provide these readings to our customers, along with other relevant technical data. Our core Red, Green and Blue channels on every RGBW strip reads as follows:
Red LED channel: wavelength 625nm
Green LED channel: wavelength 525nm
Blue LED channel: wavelength 470nm
