We'd be the first to admit that the Zigbee protocol is quirky at best. Although Zigbee is a very reliable protocol when running, the set-up process requires a bit of extra attention, on account of having a few idiosyncrasies, which can lead to frustration for those new to LED strip lighting. It's for this reason that we have put together this article, along with video guides on how to pair single and multiple zones between our Zigbee controllers and Zigbee remotes. Note: If you need a guide on pairing Zigbee to home automation systems such as Amazon Echo, please see THIS ARTICLE.
How to pair a single zone with RGBW Zigbee Controllers:
The term "Touchlink Commissioning" refers to pairing two Zigbee devices together. First things first, we want to reset the controller.
Press the learning key 5 times. The LEDs should flash, to indicate that the controller is now reset.
Next, we reset the Remote Control. To do this - and with the remote placed close (10cm) to the controller - hold down the power button for several seconds, until you see the red light in the upper right corner turn on. Now press the power button again 5 times. Your remote is now rest.
Power off supply to the controller and leave it for a few seconds. Power back on again. Important! After powering on, wait for a full 15 seconds before continuing. Do not allow time to pass 160 seconds. The controller is now ready for "Touch-link Commissioning".
Press Zone 1 on the remote. Next, hold down the power button until the red light comes on. Now press S2. After 10 seconds or so, the LED strip light will blink to indicate that pairing has been successful.

How to pair multiple zones with RGBW Zigbee Controllers:
Now that we know how to reset the controllers to factory settings, the next stage is to pair them for multi-zone purposes. The key thing to note here is that in order for pairing to go smoothly, we must separate the controllers so that they don't confuse the zones. Remember, this is "Touch-link", meaning the controller and remote must be within close proximity; more than one will cause headaches!
Getting your first controller, place it 10cm or so away from your remote and after the reset wait 15 seconds minimum before continuing to the next stage. Now, power on your remote, press 1 on the remote and then hold down the remote's power button until the red indicator light on the remote flashes. Now click S2. It will take several seconds before the LED strip starts to blink. Be patient here. Once the lights flash, we have successful pairing to Zone 1.
Now remove that controller, so that we don't cause any confusions with the next one.
With controller 2 repeat the same steps as with controller 1, with the only difference being that instead of pressing 1 on the remote after resetting, we press 2 for the 2nd zone. If you find that after pairing the second controller both strip lights blink together, it means that the controllers were too close together and will have to be reset. Remember: the controllers must all be wired in at the same time if pairing multiple zones.
