When considering LED Strip Lighting for home or business, you must always be aware of your environment and how it can change. LED Strips are designed to factor in many variables, which can occur both indoors and out. For this reason they come with different levels of security, from being able to offer protection against dust, to being fully submersible under water. This is known as an IP Rating (Ingress Protection)
Let's provide some examples...
Say, you wish to power a run of LED Strip Lights across the ceiling of your living room. The chances are that you won't have too much to worry about here, so an LED Strip rated IP00 should suffice; either do a spot of dusting from time to time or even consider a profile for aesthetic value.
If, however, you wanted to install lights in your kitchen, then we would need to consider LED Strips which are protected against common accidents such as water splashes or other liquid spillages. Here, your options go from IP65 upward.
If you wanted to go outside to provide lighting around a fence, then we would need to look toward the higher end of the scale with IP68, as the outdoor elements become far harsher throughout the year.
