Our SMD5050 (Surface Mounted Diode - 5mm x 5mm) RGBW LED Strips contain the cutting-edge Epistar chip, which we believe offers the best value for money on the market today. Due to its size, the SMD5050 is able to house 4 chips, which gives it its Quad name.
The SMD5050 Quad Chip - which comes with Warm, Natural and Cool White options - effectively doubles brightness efficiency. This is because every individual chip has Red, Green, Blue and White built in, as opposed to standard RGBW strips, which split the RGB and White chips per meter. For example: an SMD5050 strip at 60 LEDs per metre will have those 60 LEDs each producing R/G/B/W, while a standard RGBW strip will use 30 RGB and 30 White LEDs per metre. Not only that, it means that colour uniformity is far greater. For this reason, we find that they are very effective when planning for RGBW set-ups, often for larger projects.
We only offer SMD5050 LED Strips for RGBW in 30 LEDs per metre and 60 LEDs per metre. We don't use 5050 for single colour strips because 2835 afford higher brightness and better efficiency, due to their lower power consumption and smaller size, which allows for more LEDs to be used per metre.
